Instructions
|
|
Please read the limitations and what's new first. To play a game, proceed as follows:
- Move your mouse pointer over the "END" to place your broom.
- When the pointer is where you want the broom to be, click the mouse. This will place the broom at this location. Repeat if you want to reposition the broom.
- The handle on the rock marked "Shoot" has two positions. Left (counter clockwise) and right (clockwise). Click on the HANDLE to switch which way the rock will curl.
- Click and HOLD DOWN the mousebutton on the label marked "SHOOT". This will start the rock moving towards the right. Release the mousebutton when you want to release the rock.
- After you release the rock and once it crosses the 1st line, it will start to spin. At the same time images of two curler appears. They are your sweeper. Only one sweeper can sweep at the time. How hard he can sweep depends on his size.
- To sweep, click and hold down the mouse button on the curler. Release to stop.
- To start a new end, click on the NEW END image (crossed brooms) image. (NOTE: This image is not visible until the current end has been completed)

New for Version 1.1
|
|
E-curling now has 8-end Scoring capabilities which work as follows:
- At the completion of each END, the scoreboard will be automatically update the total for that END, however, the TOTAL column is updated only after you click the NEW END image.
- After playing 8 ENDS, you will be given an opportunity to start a new game. The only other way to restart a game is to exit the page and reload it.
- To view the score, hold your mouse over the label marked [SCORE]. This will reveal the scoreboard. Move your mouse off to hide the scoreboard. (NOTE: The scoreboard may temporarily display an incorrect END total while rocks are still moving. This will be corrected/updated once all rocks have stopped)
- Morrisburg Curling Club sponsors will fade in and out between each rock. This does not halt the play. Moving your mouse cursor into the house will cause these ads to disappear immediately.
- In previous versions, when a rock that was hit subsequently hits another rock it deflected in a very, very unrealistic manner. In version 1.1 this has been upgraded to just unrealistic.

Limitations
|
First a bit of bad news...
- E-Curling works only with IE5+ or Netscape 6+ browsers under a Windows environment. Netscape 4 users will automatically be redirected to version 1.0.
- E-Curling has never been tested on a MAC.
- Sounds are not available to Netscape 6 users. This absence may cause a rock to accelerate unrealistically when it is swept.
Now for the really bad news...
- The animation within E-Curling does not work well under Windows95/98. Although still "workable", Windows 95/98 may experience some very slow response. This is a problem under this environment and there appears to be no easy solution. E-curling works best under Windows 2000
- If you are running Win95/98 you should have a minimum of a 300mhz processor to run E-Curling, however.... even a 1.3 ghz PC running Win98 could not produce the smooth animation experienced on a much less powerful PC running Win2000.
- If your PC is currently working well under Win2000, E-Curling should run smoothly as well regardless of your processor speed.
- Anyone upgrading their PC from Win95/98 to Win2000 just to run E-Curling really should consider joining Curlers Anonymous.
Lastly...
- Internet Explorer produces better animation than any of the Netscape browsers.
- To compensate for different screen resolutions and monitor sizes, the scale of the rink had to be adjusted. Hence the distance between the hogline and the button is much closer than it should be. The alternative would require a 1276X1024 screen resolution.
- This is a game not a simulator. Dont be surprised that a rock hit by another deflects in an unexpected direction.
- This is Version 1.2. Hopefully the above points will start to disappear in subsequent versions.
Have fun....
